Instructions for Sending Logo Artwork By Email
As computers, printers, and computer accessories have become more prevalent in recent years,
the majority of Andersen’s customers are now connected to the Internet. If you or your
office has access to the Internet and possess a flatbed scanner, you may be able to e-mail
your Proof Sketch requests.
Imagine the time and cost savings your company will realize by utilizing this service! Most
locations will trim 2 – 3 days from the entire sketch process by averting the postal service. On
the otherhand, if your company routinely uses over-night carriers (FedEx, DHL, Airborne, etc.),
sending art requests via e-mail will eliminate this sizable expense.
Existing Andersen Company customers may click on this link 'Mail Artwork' to initiate an e-mail
message automatically addressed to our main e-mail location. Prior to sending your first
e-mailed art request, please review the following:
- Use artwork that meets Andersen’s quality requirements. Images captured by digital
cameras are not acceptable as they are too blurry and indistinct. Similarly, images
obtained from web pages are of no worth
- The image may be scanned using any standard image editing program (i.e. Corel
Photo-Paint, Adobe Photoshop)
- Set the resolution at 600 dpi. “DPI”, also known as “PPI”, is an abbreviation for Dots
per Inch or Pixels per Inch. The higher the resolution, the higher the quality of the
scan. However, this elevated resolution does create a rather large file, one that will
not be easily sent via e-mail. Depending on your system, it may be necessary to scan at
a lower resolution
- Select the correct color setting within your scanning program. This setting identifies
the type of artwork being scanned so that the scanner can adjust accordingly. If you
have black & white camera-ready slicks, select the “Line Art” setting. Artwork is not
generally of this caliber and will need to be scanned using “Millions of Colors” for the
best clarity
- Be certain that the graphic is placed on the scanner so that the image is as straight as
possible. This will ensure a better-finished product
- Crop the image in an effort to scan the smallest possible object. For instance, if your
customer provided a sheet of their letterhead, do not scan the entire sheet. Instead,
using the cropping device, select only the logo portion
- We recommend that you create a new folder on your hard-drive (perhaps named “Scanned” or
“JPG”) so that you may easily retrieve and track the image files. Save the file in this
folder as a “JPG” file. When you save the file, there is an option to set the Quality
Factor. Be certain to specify image quality as “High Quality”. If a JPG filetype is not
an available option, please format the file as a “BMP”, “GIF” or “TIF”
- You are now ready to e-mail the image. Either use the above link or create a message to:
artwork@andersenco.com.
Be certain to attach the image file and provide the design particulars (size, style,
colors, etc.). It is best to send each scanned image as separate e-mail transmissions.
If you are preparing your first e-mail request, please scan only one image and stop. Submit
it for our review. Since all programs and scanners differ, there may be some fine-tuning
required before we can accept the artwork. Additionally, scanning will never be an exact
science. There may be rare occasions when Andersen requests that you send the original
artwork through the mail.
We hope that these instructions are clear and that you will have much success using this
service. Please do not hesitate to contact the Art Department should you have any questions
or require additional information.
